Sitting on my roof looking down Maple Street, I begin to think about my fellow ’09s quickly approaching graduation, our future, and how I can’t imagine leaving my home here at 9 Prospect Street. A breeze picks up, sending the sunlit leaves of the maple tree that just reaches out onto the roof into a glittery dance and I look over to my friend who is thumbing through the pages of The Atlantic. She is wearing crimson red shorts after our getaway stroll up Balch Hill; my mind wanders to an article in that issue called “What Makes Us Happy.” A curious question. The article covers, for the first time, a 70-year longitudinal study performed at Harvard examining what leads to happiness. As the wind drifts, I start to think about the key to happiness here at Dartmouth.

Candidate For SA President

on’t be apathetic in this election. ACT NOW. Accessibility. Communication. Transparency.

As President I will dedicate myself to accomplishing the following goals:

Immediate

- Expansion of the Readership Program with the addition of the Sunday New York Times

- Hot water machines and microwaves in Novack

- Continued alternative social space parties

- Create supportive programming which would occur at athletic events to increase spectator turnout

- Support of reformed eco-friendly, pro-keg, and unbiased SEMP policy that places student safety first

- Increase PANGEA events

- Transparent COS processes through education programs

- Office hours held at Food Court and Collis

- Regular advertising of SA programming and agendas in The Dartmouth

Long Term

Social Spaces

The past year at Dartmouth has been defined by a prevalent and pressing issue: the need for alternative social spaces. As SA President, I will focus on understanding exactly what these social needs and concerns are and, in time, translate this information into the innovative use of social spaces.

I would push for:

- Larger and better dining facilities conducive to more social interaction as part of the Thayer replacement plan

- Lifting the moratorium on local sororities and fraternities.

- Creating fluid and neutral social spaces controlled by students

Greek Financial Aid

Becoming a member of the Greek system is extremely expensive. In order to decrease this financial burden on students, I would support the creation of a Greek-wide financial aid system that would grant scholarships to students who demonstrate need.

Sustainability

There is a growing demand for greater efforts towards sustainability at Dartmouth, and I believe that SA should meet these needs. To continue the progress that has been made, I will strengthen support for the new Sustainable Living Center. In addition, I would support sustainability efforts in new dining facilities and encourage the College to pursue greener goals.

Academics

To address the academic needs of the community, I would continue to support the accessibility of syllabi online and continue the SA course guide incentive program. As SA President, I also would pressure the administration to alleviate overcrowding of certain departments.

Student Governance Council

I would first like to create a Student Governance Council. The ultimate goal would be to bring various campus organizations together to create better-designed programs, prevent fiscal overlaps, and improve discussion within both governance and the Dartmouth community as a whole

My background reflects a dedication and commitment to addressing campus issues from all angles and my experience will help me achieve my goals. My past and present duties include: Vice President of Student Life, VP of Alumni Affairs, and now VP of KDE. I also have experience as an active member of the Social Life Committee, Class Council, the DOC Trips program, and Panarchy. I have learned that three aspects best improve the collective standard of life on campus. As SA president, I will focus on communication, accessibility, and transparency to improve the Dartmouth experience for all students.
